Police representatives stated that over 200 offences related to illegal car meets in the area have been handled in approximately 12 months.
Notable statistics from the crackdown comprise:
A police sergeant commented: “Local people, motorists and our roads policing teams have had their fill with these groups of motorists thoughtlessly taking over public roads and car parks and we refuse to accept it.”
He added: “They are not only a total disturbance, but they also put themselves and innocent bystanders at risk of severe harm.”
The statement concluded: “We will continue to take legal action against these individuals and I hope these latest incidents serve as a caution: you won’t get away with it.”
