The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct game identity.

The president noted that the team is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire text from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on next week.

His management and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to come.

David

"Face the opponents with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every match. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an confirmed release date or consoles, but players can anticipate more updates as creation continues.
