That Gory Animated Movie Ending That Stays With Audiences

Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve ever viewed, nothing has remained with me as much as the fear-filled finale of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spanish writer-director developed a grim, bleak and often savage universe that included several minor , forlorn glimmers of optimism.

While The Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a drive to push animation even more, the director explained that it was more an attempt to communicate a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”

That message is conveyed via a squad of colorful pastel bears , clearly inspired by a well-known series of cuddly characters.

Being raised in a society built around aggression and the defense industry, a lot of the bears are consumed by exterminating the mythical beasts, thanks to a holy book that tells them they previously were masters of the forest, until the unicorns forced them out.

Some have not completely fallen for the propaganda, and prefer to try out substances and mate outdoors.

In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show genitals and definite sex drives.

For one especially vicious, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the conflict with unicorns transforms into a path toward dominance — and specifically to authority above his gentler, kinder brother Tubby.

Bluey behaves aggressively , a seeming sociopath , and while horror takes over his group and kills his fellow soldiers one by one, he grabs increasingly control on his own behalf, through ever more bloody, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, these mythical beings are suffering their own nightmare, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.

“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more serious and melancholic film. And in the finale, it’s a scary feature.”

The Unicorn Wars starts out similar to among the quirky films by an iconic animator, which find a wicked pleasure in letting animated figures swear, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Afterward it becomes something more like a darker movie from that director, featuring progressively visual gore , a palpable link to genuine suffering of conflict.

By the end, it is a full-on extreme drama massacre.

The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween movie starts a lot earlier than one might expect.

The Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who want to watch something they haven’t ever viewed until now, and can endure a plot that pulls unflinching brutality.

View it in a dark room without any distractions, and the finale will crawl deep within you and take up residence there.
