Pat Cummins Poised for a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Pat Cummins has secured over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.

The Australian selection chief the selector has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's Ashes series.

There were concerns that the 32-year-old might sit out due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on the 21st of November in Western Australia.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about his chances of being involved.

"We're aware that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, aside from the back issue, but further aspects," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a significant role. With luck it's the first Test. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."

Previous Setbacks

Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand last month after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with recurrences in multiple past seasons causing him to miss three Australian summers in a limited period.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the Ashes.

The selector indicated that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the first Test.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

The selector characterized it as a "small issue and mentioned that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the first Test as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.

"He was only going to play the starting games regardless. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
