Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
