Lindsey Vonn Confident of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
