Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the 45 charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
