Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

This news arrives less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
