Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
